workout music

No workout music, no heart for the workout

Left your workout music at home? Augghh! Don’t you hate it when that happens?  Do you let it ruin your workout or do you talk yourself into believing that you don’t need your music, and find the where with-all to tackle the task at hand.

Suddenly 3 miles and a few free weights feels more like the Iron-Man.  Posture slumped and enduring the agony of defeat, you head home after a crappy workout because of no workout music. Your heart just wasn’t in it.

Workout music found to improve physical performance

Your feelings were genuine-Music is what the masses use to motivate them to exercise. The effect music has on your workout is not all in your head. It has been found that listening to music while exercising (as well as before and after) definitely effects your body’s physiology.  Workout music improves physical performance.

The *Asian Journal of Sports Medicine did a studyTwelve  men exercised a minimum of 4x/week for at least hours a day. The men pedaled as fast as they could against constant resistance for 30 seconds.  They had first warmed up for ten minutes, some with and some men without workout music. The men who were  listening to music had a higher output of power throughout their exercise session.

Post workout fatigue

Although they could perform longer and at a higher rate with workout music, many were fatigued following their exercise.

Teenage Obesity – The Cause, Effect and Solutions

 Help stamp out teenage obesity

Sonny talks about teenage obesity

The Facts on Teenage Obesity

“Teenage Obesity”. We hear this term all too often. One of the growing concerns affecting today’s youth is the increase in the rate of teenage obesity. According to the American Obesity Association, about 30.4 percent of teenagers are overweight, and 15.5 percent of teens are obese . This means that 45.9 percent of teenagers are at risk for developing health problems due to weight. Type II Diabetes is running rampant among our children in America.

  • Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and tripled in adolescents in the past 30 years.
  • The percentage of children aged 6–11 years in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2010.
  • The percentage of adolescents aged 12–19 years who were obese increased from 5% to 18% over the same period.
  • Both obesity and severe obesity were more common among students in grades 6 through 8 than among children in lower grades or among high school students. Teenage obesity is prevalent in the early teens.

Supportive parenting is key for curbing teenage obesity.

The American Obesity Association identifies the concerns parents have regarding teen obesity:

  • 12 percent of parents feel their children are overweight
  • 78 percent feel that P.E. classes should not be removed from school curriculum
  • 27 percent of parents feel teens today eat less nutritiously than they did
  • 24 percent of today’s parents feel teens get less physical exercise

With the recent ‘sweeping overhaul’ of child nutrition standards in the United States, and with Michele Obama advocating children’s health , teens now have more access to nutritious foods, such as fruits and vegetables, as part of their school lunches.
However, in the efforts to curb a teenage obesity epidemic, it’s important to not forget the greatest influence in promoting a child’s healthier future: parents.  Read to the bottom of this article for more ways to help.

The effects obesity can have on  teenagers

teenage obesity and depression

Self image is crucial to most teenager’s self esteem.
The effects of being overweight and obese on a child can be debilitating.

Eating disorders usually begin at this age and can range from bulimia to anorexia, amenorrhea and worse psychological  problems leading to self-injury such as cutting, and   yes, suicide.

Poor complexion, pimples and blackheads, acne

Teenage obesity is more than “looking fat”. Keep in mind too, that a poor diet contributes to poor liver function, which contributes to acne. Greasy foods will of course cause more pimples and black heads.  We all know having even one pimple can ruin the day!

Begin right here and right now with a supplement meant purposely for teens, developed for teens and targeted to help clear their skin.  I am also giving you choices for multivitamins for all of your children of all ages.  For years I worked for Rainbow Light and I have worked alongside the formulator and herbalist, Christopher Hobbs. This the best company for your all children’s multivitamins.

Boys are just as prone to these issues as girls.   There are many books on this subject- one that I recommend is  ‘236 Pounds of Class Vice President: A Memoir of Teenage Insecurity, Obesity and Virginity‘ by Jason Mulgrew.

As you can see, teenage obesity in America is a serious problem. So what can we do?

5 Tips for Keeping Kids Healthy and Avoiding Teenage Obesity

Supportive parenting continues to be key in setting a good example for teenagers and encouraging healthy habits— Sixty-one percent of parents claim that they would readily change their own habits if it would help their teenagers avoid obesity. This gets at one of the main means of preventing obesity: family involvement. It is important to help teens acquire healthy lifestyles through family activities and participation.
Here are five strategies that parents can adopt:

I am going to first tell you… Parents you must Lead by example!

This tips are for parents as well as the children.

  • Have breakfast every day!! A great meal replacement shake is delicious and perfect for ‘on -the-go’ living. Best shake to buy- IsaLean Shakes.
  • Eat more family meals prepared at home. With working moms and dads and fast food sources all around us it seems the simple solution to drive through somewhere…. they don’t call it ‘Junk Food’ for nothing!  Aim to eat at least 5 meals prepared at home each week.
Sidebar: When you sit down at the family table for dinner look your child in the eye and find out how they are doing… you may see important signs.
  • Help your children make healthy choices when they are out of the house.  Fruit or salad as a side instead of fries, or Water instead of high-sugar sodas.  Diet sodas are lethal!! Parents and children alike must avoid them!!
  • Avoiding snack foods that are high in sugar, and fat. Eat fresh foods.  Also, a nutrient dense shake is a great snack to split with your kids- and will curb the dinner appetite as well. I recommend IsaLean Shakes or IsaLean Bars.
  • Help your kids become more active. Limit the TV  and gaming.  Encourage getting on their bikes, or have them participate in a sport that they enjoy.
Get some fresh air! Walk the dog, the dog will love you for it. 🙂
