Starting a # Hashtag Campaign on Twitter

Creating a #Hashtag Campaign

Little Action, Big Result #Hashtag

Take Twitter  hashtags, for example..#hashtag Creating a hashtag…it’s not as hard it it may seem; just add the “#” symbol in front of a word or a group of words with the spaces between them taken out. This teeny detail lets Twitter organically categorize your tweets, as well as anyone else’s, that make use of the exact same #hashtag.  It’s pretty much the equivalent of assigning keyword tags to websites and blog posts.

How can this #Hashtag help a business grow?

Just as anyone searching for a specific keyword/phrase gets directed toward the articles with that keyword, anyone searching on a # sees a list of tweets containing that #.  Think about that for a second, that’s the power of the humble hashtag. By adding a relevant to your tweet, it becomes visible to everyone searching for that specific subject, adding your thoughts to the mix. Hashtags will hone in and narrow down your viewers, allowing your tweets to involve only those interested in the same subject. The odds of your tweets being retweeted are also higher when you use the right # to share your comments on a subject- it’s one’s nature to share useful insights.  In the end, you may gain new followers, not because of the hashtags per se, but because your ideas will reach the folks interested in them in the first place.

With such a powerful tool for attracting folks to engage with you, naturally the next step is to use the # platform to market products and services. It makes good sense and Twitter is loaded with stories of how companies carry out their marketing campaigns using #s.

Ask for your FREE Copy of Twitter Secrets 101  at the bottom of this post!!

Here are some tips on how to get started with your own #Hashtag

  1. Make sure your intentions for starting the #hashtag are clear and focused. Formulate a hashtag that is relevant.   Is your aim to create buzz? Are you looking to provoke conversation?
  2. Make sure the # you have in mind is in not already being used.Twitter Search, Hashtags.org and Tagalus are some tools you can use to find out.
  3. Start tweeting your #hashtag. It helps to briefly explaining what it means. Tweet with value, and with moderation. No one likes a spammer.
  4. Set up an automatic alert tool that sends you an email when someone tweets your hashtag.  Twilert is one that you can use.

5 Ways to Get More Traffic to Your Websites and Blog

Get More Traffic = Get More Leads

Skin That Cat, Get More Traffic

get more traffic

A top concern we have as website owners?  How to get more traffic to our sites. Without knowing how to get more traffic, how else will we build our list, get more leads, make more conversions/sales and continue to make money online?

There are scores of ways to get more traffic.  I’ve collected a few of my favorite traffic-generating actions and put them into categories, some could fit within a few categories:

• Content and article marketing
• SEO
• Page Title
• Copy
• Links and Images

Get more Traffic, Make more money_ Master Training series

Content and Article Marketing

1. Start a blog. Use WordPress.org
2. Research your keywords using the Google keyword tool. Target your blog posts and articles using these keywords. This will help your posts rank higher in the search results and get more traffic.
3. Update your website or blog  daily.

SEO

One of the most important things you can do to improve your rankings in the search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.) is to ensure your website is optimized to your keywords,  more targeted toward the topic.

Page Title

Each web page on your site should have its own distinct title. A title should tell the search engines (and the reader!) what the page is about. Make sure to work in a couple keywords that are specific to that page.

Copy

Your copy, links and the images should all be constructed to give the search engines an idea about your blog’s singular reason for being.

Once you have a list of keywords or key phrases, you may then begin your message.  A good rule of thumb here is to focus on a few keywords per page.   Do not pack your site with your keywords. The top search engines have algorithms in place that will penalize for ‘stuffing’. Keyword stuffing is considered to be a “black hat” optimization action and is great way to get your website banned from the search engines. Not recommended.)

Links and Images

Descriptive links are another great way to tell the search engines what your site is about . They carry a good amount of weight and should be used wisely.  Rather than saying ‘click here’ or ‘read more’, build a little more information into the link by saying ‘read more about nature’s stress relievers’ (or whatever your topic.) Assuming ‘healthy weight loss’ was one of our key words, you just gave that search engine a little more reason to promote the site when someone searches healthy weight loss.

Even the images you use can build get more traffic for your blog or website.
For example, if you have a nutrition company, don’t just use a picture of successful client the way it came off your digital camera… ‘LD3459.jpg’  Search engines use file name you give your picture. A better file name might be “wendy-lost-50-pounds.jpg” or ‘amazing-weight-loss.jpg’ This same principle holds true for every file name you use on your site.

Feed the Search Engines to Get More traffic

Does it sound like I’m catering to the search engines? I am. Search engines are the gateway to your website. Make it clear to them you are 1) an authority in your field, and 2) your website holds great value to those who will find it.

Blogging for business and Reaching #1 on Search Engines

Blogging for Business ~ 10 Commandments

blogging for business

Blogging for business is very serious business.  If you adhere to the  following ‘commandments’, you will see positive results.  Each blog is important in its own way. Focus on being clear, to the point, stay on subject and keep it exciting .  Add humor to the mix if it is who you are. Be authentic!   It is a commitment not only to yourself, but to your audience and to the blog itself.

Be consistent, always sharing valuable content.  You want them to learn, develop, grow, from what you share.  If you have just started blogging for business you may be uncomfortable with it, maybe not knowing what to say at first.  It may feel like work in the beginning, but it will become enjoyable! Your efforts will pay off and you will be successful.

Include Videos When Blogging for Business

Businesses large and small can benefit from video blogging. A quality ‘vlog’ that’s updated regularly will increase your web presence and draw in conversions. Show customers how to use the products/services that you offer with how-to videos. You can create the videos in-house, outsource them, or find online videos that can be embedded into your blog.

To reach the #1 rank on Google and other search engines, you must have an organized campaign in place for the niche you are writing about.

10 Commandments of Blogging for Business

1. Save the drama for your mama.  Don’t use your blog as a soapbox.

When blogging for business, don’t use your blog like a personal soundboard or journal. It should be used to share quality information and relevant, compelling information that can help others to solve their problems.

2. Use your own words

People share ideas and subjects but they shouldn’t share the same exact words. Your words, in the way that you feel them, is what makes you unique.  Your words is what will give you your own ‘style’ of writing. Take an idea or concept and own it.  If you do ‘adopt’ from other bloggers, give them credit where credit is due.

3. Visit your blog daily or at least twice a week.

We all have days when we don’t feel like blogging for business. You’ve got to honor the commitment that you’ve made to making your blog work. There will be times when it won’t be easy to feel inspired.  Take a moment to sit in a quiet room with no noise, relax.  My best thoughts come while doing something that I love to do.  Take a note pad or use your smart phone’s quick voice  app when a thought comes to you. In working on how to make extra money from home by blogging, this is crucial.

4. Be creative

Think of your blog as something fun and creative -write knowing that it can help others to achieve their goals or solve a problem.

5. Reach the reader’s heart

If you want your audience to react on an emotional level, you need to be authentic and sensitive in your writing.  Tell a story that really happened, and share what you learned from it.  It’s okay to be human! This is still relationship building.

6. Use images in your blog

Many if not most of your readers will be visual people and adding a picture or graphic will help them to visualize what you are trying to convey.. and hey, some folks read because they like to look at the pictures! 😉

7. Leave a comments box on your post

Encourage your readers to comment and engage.  Let them know they are welcome and feel like they ‘belong’ on your page. Between their feedback and reading other people’s blogs, you will no doubt improve your own writing skills.

8. Connect with your audience

You’ve got to get your readers to relate with you. Get inside their heads, get them to want to come back to your blog over and over again. Ask your readers questions that provoke them to engage and leave comments.

9. Make a difference

Our time is valuable. Be sure to give your visitors something of value that can make a difference in their lives.

10. Offer your RSS Feed

Invite your readers to subscribe to your content. Have a link or icon for your RSS feed.  Use additional social media tools to make it easy to share your blog with others.

Utilizing Google Plus Communities for Website Traffic

 Reach for Google Plus Communities

Google plus communities

Google Plus Communities builds relationships

Content marketing drives business. Today’s online environment demands it. Whether you are looking for more customers, a rise in the rankings, or publicity – creating good content has to be at the forefront of your online marketing strategy.  Today I am paying it forward with information that I picked up from a great source, Robert Lons.

Blogging helps build valuable content around your message and brand. It gives the search engines something to index. It gives people something to link to. Last but not least, good content answers the questions that your target audience is asking. This helps you build credibility in your niche and can help enhance your company as an authority in your industry.

Simply writing an article doesn’t make the magic happen. You won’t gain fame and link popularity on wit and writing style alone. You’ll need to roll up your sleeves and put in a little elbow grease to attract readers to your blog. Google Plus Communities can help.

my google plus communities

Google Plus Communities is a place where like-minded people congregate around a particular topic. Communities are much like forums or Facebook Groups. Anyone is able to create their own Google Plus Communities.  For bloggers this is an opportunity to laser target your audience and drive traffic to your blog posts.

Get Your Feet Wet!

Jump right in, the water’s fine!  The majority of people you’ll find in the communities are quite friendly and engaging. Don’t be afraid to hop in and share your opinion. Of course, proper etiquette is required. You don’t want to join a community just to spam them with links back to your blog or website. This shows a lack of regard towards community spirit and environment. Forums are built for the exchange of ideas and opinions. You want to give as much as you share.

Google Plus Communities is the traffic jam you’ll like!

Get Noticed (And Get More Traffic To Your Blog or Website)

Think of using Google Plus Communities as forum marketing. It’s essentially the same thing. Your goal should be to add value, offer insight, and join in the conversation. Keep these fundamentals in mind and you will attract attention (the good kind):

1. Time to Mingle

The easiest way to get noticed is to get out there. So, the first step is action. The first thing you’ll want to do is join the communities that have a topical relationship to your niche. For example, a website with a focus on SEO and online marketing would naturally gravitate towards Google Plus Communities covering these topics. Here are some examples:

* SEO+: Search Engine Optimization / Web Design
* Social Media Marketing for Small Business Owners

Also you want to think of your target audience. If you are an SEO consultant, you naturally work with other business owners. Why not go where other small business owners are hanging out? The point here is to find groups where your audience congregates or looks for answers.

2. Share Content that Answers People’s Questions

People go online for entertainment or information. That is putting it as simply as you can. Often times people use forums to search for answers, ask questions, get opinions. This is where all that knowledge you have comes in. Show off your skills by answering people’s questions or offering up insight that gets them thinking. Don’t simply post a link to your content. Give them a clear answer that has value, build on the conversation, and then offer a link to one of your posts that explains the concept in more detail.

3. Comment on Other People’s Posts

Shining the spotlight on someone else in Google Plus Communities is almost guaranteed to get you noticed. Aren’t we searching for the same thing? Engage with what other people have to say, yand it will come back to you.  Do this often and people will appreciate you. They’ll also be more likely to follow you and check out your website or blog.

4. Be Consistent

Consistency always pays off. This ties into everything you do in life. Once you find the Google Plus Communities that are beneficial to your brand, you want to stay consistent. Develop a routine that allows you to stay visible by commenting on posts and sharing information that people find useful.

5. Become a Bastion of Information

When people see you as a source of information the dividends can be immeasurable. This is what being a thought leader and industry expert is all about. Good information and advice breeds trust. No amount of marketing dollars can achieve that.

6. Build a Community Around Your Brand

Launching your own Google Plus Communities can also be a great way to generate brand recognition. This can work really well if you already are part of a large network.

* Create a community around your niche and target audience with your brand page.

* Invite people from your personal network (Google+, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter).

* Generate useful content and start conversations that encourage participation.

Let The Good Times Roll

By now you should have a decent understanding of the benefits of using Google Plus Communities to build traffic back to your website. If you walk away with anything from this article it should be this:

Do not focus on getting ‘clicks’ to your website. Instead, focus on building a reputation for yourself and your company. Once people recognize you as a source of valuable information they’ll check out your blog on their own. You’d be surprised how easy it is to win someone over simply by being helpful.

Facebook Sucks Sometimes – How to make it suck less

Raise your hand if you think
using Facebook sucks sometimes!

facebook sucks sometimes

Ok. Put your hands down!!
But it’s true. Facebook sucks sometimes.

One way that Facebook sucks and how to fix it

Here’s one problem we all face — and a tool I use to solve this problem and make the way Facebook sucks a little less. By the way, I spend at least 8 hours a day on Facebook.

Problem 1: News Feed pollution

The number one thing for me why Facebook sucks is seeing my friends post a gazillion times about the same topic when the topic is hot or trending.

This is especially true when it comes to politics. (or Lindsay Lohan and Kim Kardashian!!)

This past election season was taxing from seeing political posts.  Pardon the pun. 🙂 My news feed was filled with ‘litter’.

I had a choice to make. I could either hide those friends or pages from my news feed, or I could unfriend them.  No way! You’re my friends!! and then I’d miss out on all the good stuff you post — stuff that’s not political.

The Solution

There is a terrific extension for Chrome called No Politics Please and it completely radically changed my News Feed.

The plugin allows me to easily block any word related to the election and politics— so my News Feed was more focused on things I wanted to interact with.

So from the summer of 2012 until after the election I used this extension to block words such as Obama, President, Romney, Ron Paul, election, White House, etc.

Any time a friend or a page posted an update with one of these words in it, the extension hid the update from my News Feed.  Remarkable! This totally made my time on Facebook more pleasurable and made me 1,000 times more productive.

But, here’s the best part… you don’t to use it only for politics.  I used it last week to block another hot topic that was polluting my news feed — and it immediately removed all of that goofy content. Now Facebook sucks less!

Watch as my friend Scott shows you the extension in action:

The Domain Authority Factor and How to Achieve It

What is Domain Authority?

Domain authority is a measure of power

Domain authority is domain trust. Let’s examine domain authority and how you can use it to your own benefit.  What makes it so difficult for a new site to rank and why are some sites getting to the top of search engines faster?

Authority is one of many search engine ranking factors. Domain authority determines how high a site will be found in search engine results. The search engines want to give users trusted websites.

One factor of domain authority is time. Websites gain authority by ‘doing the right thing’ themselves for a fair amount of time, by having other links point to their site for a longer time, and having other good authority sites linking back to them.

New websites should try and collect authority as soon as they possibly can.  They should begin to acquire links as soon as the new website has gone live.  The  links have to mature over a few months before gaining their full effect.

If you use black hat SEO techniques or if your site gets a lot of  links from spam networks, your authority can be lost. This is a huge negative  affect on domain authority.  It will take some time to regain your authority if you fool around with these tactics.

SearchEngineWatch has come up a checklist that I recommend you follow, called the RAT checklist.

The RAT Checklist

Good links will have RAT, which boils down to:

  • Relevance: From anchor text to incoming links of the website that links to you, they should all influence link relevance.
  • Authority: Keep reading this article for examples for this topic.
  • Transfer: Link value that’s passed from page to page by links that are able to be followed.

Gaining domain authority takes knowledge, time and effort to achieve.  This master training series is what I used to get my site – this blog – to #1 on Google within two weeks from my post.  Here is everything you need to bring your site the ranking it deserves.

How YOU Can Gain Domain Authority Quickly

Domain authority fast

Domain Authority is Based on 3 Factors:

Age
Domain age symbolizes trust because it proves to the search engines that the website has been around a long time. If you’ve owned the domain name and increased traffic to that url over time, the search engines decide that it must be a trusted source.

Popularity
Domain popularity is measured to some extent by the number of quality inbound links the domain has. This indicates the website has useful information worth reading. Blogs, press releases, article marketing, and social media help build inbound links and increase traffic.

Size
Size matters ! 🙂 A bigger website adds to its authority. The number of pages that are on a domain equates with the amount inbound links. A larger website with relevant content on each page will have more inbound links than a smaller site.
Authority will affect an entire domain name.

Examples of  Authority

Domain authority in Google’s eyes is domain trust, and best found by doing a generic search.

You might think googling for ‘www’ shows w3.net or guides to the web, but it pulls up sites that have been around for some time. They have really good links to them, and mainly link to each other. No spam-type moves, and mostly well-known names.

You might find things like big companies in telecom, universities, big media companies, charities. Or maybe search engines, social media sites and big online sales platforms. A gamut of sites you might call an authority in real life.

Gaining Domain Authority

If you get a link on any authority domain, it rubs some of its authority onto your domain. You can shorten the time to gain authority by receiving links from authority sites, especially if that domain barely links out.

If big company changes its name or merges and transfers to a new domain name you would think they would have to start out from the bottom. Google transfers authority through a redirect. If you want to increase a new site, consider buying an existing ranking domain.  These are available for purchase every day.

The more authority your domain has, the more damage it can sustain. Spam-type actions negatively affect domain authority, so keep away from them at all costs.

Why is domain authority important?

Domain authority  is important because it will help new sites –including blog posts-get indexed faster and have a better chance of ranking higher in organic search results.
If you want new pieces of content to rank highly on Google you must continually build domain trust and authority.

So now you know about domain authority and a few of the factors that go into gaining your site’s rankings.  Gaining domain authority takes time and effort to achieve.  Here is what I have found to get my site – this blog – to #1 on Google within two weeks from my post.

Beat the Penguin! … Google Penguin

The Dreaded ‘Penguin Update’
Google penguin

Understanding the Google penguin update

It’s absolutely critical that you have an understanding of WHAT the Google penguin update is, what it’s trying to achieve and WHY it may be affecting you.

In the past, Google used the text of the links that pointed to a page to gain a better idea of what the page was about. For example if three different sites linked to a page and used the word ‘digital photography’ in their links, then there was a good chance that the page they linked to was about digital photography.

brand backlinks in google penguin

What this meant was that if you wanted your page to rank well for the phrase ‘digital
photography’ you could build links to your page that used the term ‘digital photography’ in your anchor text.

There were a number of legitimate ways to build these links including, guest blogging,
commenting on other people’s blogs, syndicating good quality articles, submitting press releases and building Web2.0 sites such as Squidoo lenses, and hub pages.  Over time the number of links pointing to your page using the anchor text ‘digital photography’increased and often your page was ranked higher in the search engine rankings as a result.

BUT with the introduction of the Google Penguin update Google has decreed that ANY form of link building is now a major offense and they are banishing your site into oblivion for creating backlinks, regardless of the quality of your content.  To understand what kind of link patterns can cause you to lose your rankings and traffic, we need to look at the three different categories of links that point to your site.

  • Brand Links
  • Target Links
  • Generic Links

One of the most important factors that appears to trigger the Penguin penalty is the ratio of these three link types.  If  over 50% of your link network is made up of ‘target links’ then there’s a good chance that you have been or will be hit by the Penguin penalty. On the other hand, if target links make up less than 30% of your link network then you are probably going to be safe for now.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a checklist to beat the Google Penguin?

That’s what the Noble Samurai thought!punching Google penguin
The result is the ‘Beat The Penguin’ checklist, which you can download for free from the following address: BeatThePenguinChecklist

This is a checklist that contains the top 25 strategies and practical techniques from around the web that could help us positively influence the rankings of our websites, and beat the Google penguin!  So instead of spending HOURS plowing through the thousands of misleading and confusing articles online, you can now work through this step-by-step checklist.  Hope this helps you to get your website back on track!!

Facebook Graph Search – Google Ain’t Skeered

Ain’t Skeered of Facebook Graph Search

Facebook Graph Search

They figured that Markey Zuckerberg would eventually figure out a way to harness piles of valuable personal user data to create a stellar search product, and it appears that day has come.. When Facebook unveiled Graph Search last week, it was touted as revolutionary.  Fast forward a week, some bad press, and a Tumblr spoof, and F’book’s supposed game-changer seems more like a viral web phenom gone bad.

Google ain’t skeered.

Zuckerberg’s explanation of Facebook Graph Search

“In general, Web search is designed to take any open-ended query and return to you links that may have answers to the question that you might be trying to ask. Facebook Graph Search is very different. Graph Search is designed to take a precise query and return to you the answer, not links to other places where you might get the answer.”facebook graph search

Mr. Zuckerberg also made mention that Facebook partnered up with Bing to create Facebook Graph Search, and the two tech kings designed it to answer queries about people, places, and things. Users can search using different types of filters, such as ‘liked by’ or ‘place’. Here’s a couple of examples that Facebook offers up:

* “Restaurants in London my friends have been to”
* “People who like cycling and are from my hometown”

Sounds pretty cool, eh? Yup, it did – but then …enter the Tumblr account.

Facebook Graph Search… or Graphic Search?

This week reality clobbered Facebook in quite an undignified way. ‘Actual Facebook Graph Searches‘ – a Tumblr spoof created by Tom Scott – surfaced and went viral right out of the gate. Every news outlet from CNET to FOX to Forbes covered the story, and now some serious publicity problems must be faced by Facebook.

Forbes published an article about this  debacle and highlighted the worst of the worst from the Tumblr blog thus far. In the article, some real Graph searches that actually produced results (Eek!) included these humdingers:

* “Current employers of people who like Racism”

* “Spouses of married people who like Ashley Madison”

* “Family members of people who live in China and like Falun Gong”

* “Islamic men interested in men who live in Tehran, Iran”

* “People who like Focus on the Family [anti gay marriage] and Neil Patrick Harris [gay and married with kids]”

* “Single women who live nearby and who are interested in men and like Getting Drunk”

* “Mothers of Catholics from Italy who like Durex”

Wow. Just imagine what kind of trouble people could get into if their name were to pop up in the results for queries like those. Now imagine if the searchers happened to be spouses, family members, or even worse – employers.

Double eek.

So Google ain’t skeered – in just 7 days, the Facebook Graph Search has dwindled from earth shattering web concept to a drinking game that interns will play on Saturday nights.

Sheesh.

Moral of the Story: Facebook Users, Check Your Privacy Settings

faceboook graph search 1 billion peopleHas reading this caused you to become ‘skeered’ that your Facebook page will show up in a list of questionable Facebook Graph Search results? good.

The moral of the story is that you need to visit Facebook’s Graph Search help pages and educate yourself about your privacy settings.

Facebook Graph Search
will be activated to every member at any moment now.

People were already ‘liking’ and ‘sharing’ the very things that will land them in the search results – and your history never goes away. Facebook has created a way to organize that info and spit it back out to, well… everyone you know (or even just kinda know).

Remember, the Internet never forgets. The more proficient the web becomes at organizing your data, the more you’ll want to protect your personal info and activity online.

Bottom line: Don’t do anything online that you wouldn’t want your wife children or boss (or a jury) to see.

Is a Good Bounce Rate Important?

Looking For a Good Bounce Rate?

Good Bounce RateI’d like to show you how to know if you need to optimize and lower the bounce rate, and get a good bounce rate to increase conversions. There’s nothing wrong with aiming for a perfect bounce rate score of 0%, but remember that you’ll always have bounced traffic for several reasons.  Maybe they didn’t want what your product was after all, or they simple clicked on the wrong page by mistake.

A good bounce rate should be somewhere between 0% to 20%. Having a 50% bounce rate means that 1 out of 2 people are leaving your site with no conversion, but with a good bounce rate of 20%, only 1 in 5 people leave your site without filling a form or completing a conversion.  You’ve got to stay within the ideal bounce rate to get the most conversions from your site’s traffic.

How a Good Bounce Rate Affects Conversions

If it’s not a good bounce rate or your bounce rate is too high, then your landing page is likely not important to your  reader, and sales/conversions will most likely be low.  You want visitors to stay long enough to read about your products/services before clicking another page or leaving your site altogether.  The longer they stay on your site, the more likely they are to act on your call to action.

Tracking For a Good Bounce Rate

Good Bounce Rate is 20%To know whether you need to optimize your bounce rate, you need to set your analytics  to make your tracking  more accurate.  Set the ‘engagement report’ in Google Analytics to the last four months.  Then apply  ‘visits with conversions’.   That’s where you see where most sales happen on your site.  This is the shortest amount of time it takes your visitors to profitably connect with your site. You need these numbers to modify your site’s bounce rate.

Reducing The Bounce Rate

Check the layout of your website.
Make sure all the pages of your site contain a call to action.
Here’s a short check list:

  • A strong headline
  • An author section with your picture, short bio, and links to
    your social media profiles
  • Calls to action on every page
  • A section that features your most important post
  • Tags and comments

Have a natural flow to your content and pages, and be sure the call to action directs them clearly.   Fine-tune and change your content until you find a formula that that’s effective and lowers your bounce rate thereby increasing conversions.   Make your message clear, simple and honest – an easy read for you visitor.  If all else fails, get a professional to do it for you. 🙂

Klout Perks: Is it a game or good measure?

What’s all the Clammer about Klout Perks?

Klout measures influence by using data points from Twitter, such as: following count, follower count, retweets, list memberships and so on.  This information is blended with Facebook and LinkedIn data such as comment, likes, and the number of friends in your network to come up with a “Klout Score” that measures a user’s online *influence.

*Influence- how influential the people that retweet you are, and unique mentions.  Define influential.

The World According to Klout

Let’s look at the definitions here:

True Reach- the number of people you influence.

Amplification – how much you influence people.

Network – indicates the influence of the people in your True Reach

One problem is that Klout doesn’t measure “influence” it measures Social Amplification.
Its algorithms are misguided (you don’t typically have reach and interaction on LinkedIn)
It’s apparent you can decrease in score as quickly –if not quicker- than you can increase.
What’s a good Score?

According to Klout, influence is relative so it depends on your goal and peers. The average Klout Score is not 50; instead, it is around 20. The Score becomes exponentially harder to increase as you move up the scale.

What are Klout Perks?

Klout Perks are exclusive products or experiences you earn based on your Klout.  Of late CEO and co-founder Joe Fernandez states he is ready to amp up his own Klout by monetizing with advertisers via the Perks Program.  The most influential people will in theory reach out and Amplify about the awesome Perk they just received, thereby driving their network of Tweeps to purchase.  So if you have a lot of Klout you get to market for Joe Fernandez.

One problem I see with this is the availability- or lack thereof- for these Perks.  Klout states that the average score is 20; my score as of today is 56 and I have yet to have a Perk ‘available’ to me.
Another problem-  the ‘perks’ are far from enticing for one to put time into gaining a higher score just to be eligible for one. Energy drink?  Hair gel?  Really?

Disclosure: “I have received a free box of Pop Chips and a ‘home viewing party’ kit for the TV show Lone Star through Klout’s Perks program.”~ Jason Keath

Do you hold any merit to your Klout score?  Or is it more of a game to you?

Team Klout
